What an afternoon!

The Afternoon Light: The LH Express at OLLA filled Our Lady of Light Atelier with an unforgettable blend of blues, soul, rock, and heart. So many great tunes… from The Thing You Do and Snapshot to the chart-topping Painting Stars, A Place in This World, the moving Over You / Free Falling, Love Thang, The Truth, Give Me Life, Blind Man’s Blues, and I Love You to name only a few, every song found its place in the afternoon light.

Our heartfelt thanks to Lucas Haneman, Megan Laurence, Martin Newman, and Val Nehovora of The LH Express for sharing your music with our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, bringing such warmth and attentive listening to the Atelier.

And to our volunteers—thank you for the care, time, and generosity that made the afternoon possible.

Some artists have stories that deepen your appreciation of their music. Haneman is one of them.

A guitarist since the age of six, Lucas has built a career on an extraordinary ear, relentless curiosity, and a commitment to creating music on his own terms. From leading The LH Express to recording, producing, and composing with accessible technology, he has continually found new ways to push his craft forward. Our Lady of Light Atelier is glad to be a partner of this year’s Dirty Mayo ride—part of the Shield & Valley Gravel Series.

Dirty Mayo (on June 28th) is an 82 km open-course gravel ride out of Mayo, QC (St. Malachy in Mayo)—rolling through the Laurentian foothills with a mix of gravel, pavement, steady climbs, and a few sections that keep you challenged.

Along the way, riders can roll into Our Lady of Light Atelier for a proper refuel and recharge. Water, a bite, a place to step inside and take a breath. A former church, now open as a community arts space, kept going through shared use and a steady stream of people coming through the door. Take a look around while you’re there.

This series brings people together and supports the places that make rides like this possible. Proceeds go to Friends for Life Bike Rally—a 600 km ride from Toronto to Montreal supporting organizations such as Bruce House in Ottawa and local hosts such as OLLA.

As the Irish saying goes, may the road rise to meet you—on this ride, it rises steadily and asks you to match it.
