🎉 Exciting News from The 11th Element Studio! 🎨

I'm honoured to share that I have been appointed to the Cambridge Art Galleries Advisory Committee, with my first meeting taking place next week.

Earlier this year, I submitted my application and, to be honest, completely forgot about it. Receiving the call this summer was both unexpected and incredibly exciting.

This opportunity represents much more than joining a committee.

One of the core values behind The 11th Element Studio has always been the belief that art has the power to build confidence, inspire creativity, strengthen communities, and create meaningful connections.

As both an elementary visual arts teacher and the founder of The 11th Element Studio, I look forward to learning from fellow artists, arts organizations, educators, and community leaders while contributing the perspective of arts education and creative programming for young people.

I hope this experience will help strengthen relationships within our local arts community, create new opportunities for collaboration, and continue supporting emerging artists and creative experiences throughout Cambridge.

This is an exciting step—not only for me personaly, but for the vision of The 11th Element Studio as we continue to grow as a place where creativity, learning, and community come together.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey so far. I can't wait to see where it leads next.

💛 Meet Flat Eric! 💛

The 11th Element Studio is excited to introduce Flat Eric—the fourth commissioned puppet I’ve created!

Flat Eric first became famous in 1999, starring alongside French electronic artist Mr. Oizo in the iconic Flat Beat music video. His quirky personality and unforgettable look quickly made him a pop culture favourite around the world.

This puppet has been such a fun project. While I’m still learning the art of puppet making, each one becomes a little easier and teaches me something new.

As both an artist and teacher, I always encourage my students to think outside the box, try something new, and never be afraid to be different. Originality is what makes people stop, smile, and remember your work.

Flat Eric will be making his debut at Outside the Lines at Stewart Avenue Public School on September 23… and he just might have a few friends joining him. 😉

Outside the Lines is coming on Wednesday, September 23, and we’re looking for passionate community artists to be part of this exciting family celebration of creativity!

This unique event will showcase student artwork alongside local artists and creative professionals, highlighting the incredible talent that exists within our community while inspiring the next generation of creators.

A milestone for The 11th Element Studio.

Yesterday I welcomed my very first student into the studio. I wondered if beginning with the Elements of Art and foundational sketchbook exercises would feel too technical for a Grade 7 student. Instead, the opposite happened.

For two hours, he was completely immersed in learning, experimenting, and building his artistic foundation. As we packed up, his first question wasn’t “Are we done?” It was, “When’s my next lesson?”

Moments like these remind me that creativity doesn’t begin with a finished masterpiece—it begins with curiosity, confidence, and a strong foundation.

This is exactly what The 11th Element Studio is all about, and I can’t wait to see where this journey leads.

✨ From an idea… to a challenge I couldn’t resist.

This puppet actually began as a commission. Partway through, plans changed and it was no longer needed. For a moment I considered setting it aside… but I had already fallen in love with the idea.

So I decided to keep going.

I thought it would be fun to share a few behind-the-scenes photos of the journey so far—from foam patterns, to the first stitched skin, to shaping the face. It’s amazing to see a character slowly come to life.

This is only my third puppet, and with each one I’m learning something new. I still have lots to finish (eyes, details, mechanisms, and plenty of personality!), but I’m really excited about where he’s headed.

Maybe this wasn’t the home he was originally meant for… but I’m trusting he’ll find the one he’s truly meant to be in.

🎭 His debut will be September 23rd at the Outside the Lines Art Event, where he’ll be looking for his forever home. And he won’t be coming alone… there are a few more characters currently in the works!

With our community arts event now just 11 weeks away, it’s time to finalize our lineup and bring this vision to life.

As plans have evolved, I’ve reached a point where I need to move forward with confirming artists, performers, community partners, and a DJ. While some of my original collaborations have not yet been confirmed, I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes a change in direction creates space for something even more meaningful.

This event is about celebrating creativity, connection, community, and the next generation. My vision is to bring together artists from every corner of the creative world to inspire, engage, and remind our youth that there are endless ways to express themselves.

I’m currently looking for:
