Owen Sound Celebrates Vibrant New Public Art Installation: It’s a Wrap – Peace Ribbon Project
Owen Sound’s downtown core is brighter today with the unveiling of a major community art installation created by more than 150 local residents. The project, titled “It’s a Wrap – Peace Ribbon Project,” transforms trees throughout the city with over 600 square feet of hand‑designed fabric, wrapped in joyful patterns, colours, and messages of hope.
Supported by a grant from Community Foundation Grey Bruce, the installation is part of an ongoing initiative led by Artcures, a local arts organization dedicated to making creativity accessible to everyone. The project invited people of all ages and backgrounds to contribute their own designs, resulting in a collective artwork that reflects the spirit, diversity, and imagination of Owen Sound.
“This installation proves that art doesn’t just belong in galleries — it belongs in the streets, in our public spaces, and in the hands of our community,” said organizers. “Every ribbon represents someone’s voice, someone’s creativity, and someone’s belief that art can bring people together.”
The Peace Ribbon Project is only the beginning. Artcures is already planning its next community‑driven installation and is inviting residents to participate, donate, and help shape what comes next.
Visitors can view the installation at various downtown locations, including the newly wrapped tree at Owen Sound City Hall. A QR code posted onsite allows supporters to contribute directly to future projects.
Art belongs to everyone — and Owen Sound has just proven it.
