Boozhoo! Welcome to June. In Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin), June is known as Ode'imini-giizis, which translates to the Strawberry Moon (or literally the "Heart Berry Moon")

https://ojibwe.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/June-Song.mp3 (if you would like to listen to a beautiful song honouring June)

The Ojibwe calendar is deeply connected to the natural world. This specific month gets its name because wild strawberries ripen at this time of year. Traditional Ojibwe teachings recognize the strawberry as the "heart berry"—named for its shape and its traditional medicinal properties of calming the mind and opening the heart.

LLC programming this month includes our monthly Lunch and Learn on June 11 from 11am until 1pm. This month we offer you a teaching about Ode'imini-giizis. The story of the first strawberry. Join us for a warm meal and conversation.

If you receive the Good Food Box, please make note that they are ready for pick up a little earlier this month. You can pick up your boxes on June 12. Please contact Margaret for more information or questions.

Monday Craft Group is from 1:30 until 3:30 each week and the projects we will be working on is:
June 1 – Felt Strawberries
June 8 – Sun Catchers
June 15 – Summer Welcome Sign
June 22 – NO CRAFT - CENTRE CLOSED
June 29 – Open Craft (catch up on started projects, bring your own or just come to socialize)

Tuesday Drumming is every week from 6 to 7:30pm with the exception of June 16. There is no scheduled Tuesday drum on this day as Drummer have been invited to drum and sing at the One World Festival happening at the Farmers Market. If you want more information on this please contact Tanya.

M’Wikwedong IFC is hosting a Summer Solstice event on June 18 from 4 to 6 pm. The poster is attached. There will be a BBQ meal, Sacred Fire and Drumming by the CRC Drum group as well as fun activities in the yard.

On June 18 we have 10 spots available for the Tea & Tour at the Billy Bishop Museum. There is a feature called UNBROKEN which honours SON Veterans. There will be stairs, those with mobility issues may find difficulty navigating the stairs in the museum, and we do apologize for the inconvenience of that. If you are interested please let Wendy or Tanya know. There are a limited number of spaces.

There will be no events on June 21. The Centre will be closed Monday June 22. A Sunrise ceremony is being held at the Reconciliation Garden on June 21 from 5:30am until 7am for those interested.

As always please reach out to Margaret or myself with any questions, concerns or inquiries to programming. Looking forward to seeing you over the month.
