The Great Indian Carnival The biggest desi carnival Ottawa has ever seen — on a 200-acre historic estate. Sunday, August 2. Long weekend. $20.

Petting zoo, horse rides, live DJ, spa, bonfires, and 2,500+ from the Ottawa community.

Adults will tell you an event was well organised. Kids just tell you whether it was fun. And these two didn’t hesitate for a second.

Nine hours, 200 acres, a thunderstorm, and this is what stuck: rides, snacks, paint on your face, and something bouncy. Not a bad day out. 🎪

Thank you to every family who brought their little ones. They were the best part of that field. 🙏

“I didn’t know what to expect driving in.” 🚗💛

Honestly? Neither did we.

That’s the reality of a first-year event. Nobody’s been before. There are no photos to look at, no reviews to read, no one to ask. You just get in the car, drive out to a 200-acre estate you’ve never visited, and hope it’s worth the trip.

He took that chance — and then spent the whole day going through the activities with his family. When he found out over 2,000 tickets had sold, he lit up. There’s something about realising the whole community showed up alongside you. 🙏

The part we’re most grateful he mentioned: our volunteers.

They’re the reason a day like this actually works. Directing parking in the rain. Pointing lost families toward the Garden House. Running activities for hours without a break. Nobody buys a ticket to see the volunteers — but everyone feels it when they’re good. And ours were exceptional.

Thank you for taking the chance on us. Next year you’ll know exactly what to expect. 👀

Turns out you give a kid a paint kit and a table, and that’s the whole afternoon sorted. 🎨💛

Favor Expressions set up at The Great Indian Carnival with DIY paint kits, and their booth basically became a permanent gathering point for every child on the field. Focused little faces, paint everywhere, parents finally getting five minutes to sit down. Perfect.

They called it a great turnout — and they’re already in for year two. 🙌

That’s the thing we keep hearing from vendors: they took a chance on an event that had never happened before, in the rain, and walked away wanting to do it again. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Thank you, Custom Party Favors, for giving the kids something to make and take home. See you in 2027. 👏

Mandeep didn’t ask for guarantees. He said yes, put his name behind it, and then spent the day at Strathmere with the community he serves. And when we asked why, that was his answer: this community supports his business, so he supports the community back.

He’s already confirmed he’ll be back next year. 🤝

Ottawa — if you’re looking for a realtor, go find the one who invested in your community before anyone else did. Mandeep Basra | Team Basra Real Estate 👏

Thank you, Mandeep. Year one doesn’t happen without people willing to bet on it. 🙏

She also said the rain took a bit of the fun out of it — they’d have danced more if the sky had cooperated. Fair. We’d have liked that too. 😅🌧️

But they stayed. And they were still having a blast when we found them.

That’s the honest version of August 2, and we’ll take it. A day out that families didn’t want to cut short even when the weather made a solid case for going home. Well organised, plenty to do, and a mother and daughter spending a full Sunday together instead of in separate rooms on separate screens.

Next year, we’re coming back for that dance. ☀️👀

Thank you to every family who stuck it out with us. 🙏

Then 2,000+ people walked through the gates anyway, and the coffee didn’t stop moving all day.

Strong sales, a great crowd, and a 100% “we’re coming back next year.” That’s exactly what we want to hear — because a carnival is only as good as the people running the stalls, and Cravings brought it. 💛

Thank you for taking the chance on year one. See you in 2027. ☕️

Vendors — this is your sign. 👀

Don’t take our word for it. Take theirs. 🎤💛

We could tell you what The Great Indian Carnival felt like. It’s better coming from someone who was actually standing in it — in the rain, nine hours deep, still not wanting to leave.

This is what we were hoping for. Not “it was fine.” Not “good first try.” People walking out already thinking about next year. 👀

That’s the highest compliment an event can get. Thank you, Ottawa. 🙏

More voices from the day coming — stay tuned.

If you weren’t there, this is what you missed. 🎪

Not the highlight reel version — the real thing. Kids sprinting between the petting zoo and the bouncy castle. Someone’s uncle taking the mechanical bull way too seriously. Cousins soaked and unbothered. A packed Garden House going up for every single performance. Bonfire smoke and chai as the sky opened up over 200 acres.

Nine hours. Over 2,000 people. One Sunday that Ottawa had genuinely never had before. 💛

And the wild part? This was year one. With rain. On a first attempt, with a community that had no reason to trust it would be any good.

You trusted it anyway. That’s the whole story.

Watch it to the end. Then tell whoever stayed home what they missed. 👀

Horse rides and pony carts. The mechanical bull throwing people off all afternoon. Mini golf. Laser tag. A petting zoo swarmed by kids. Vintage cars lined up on the grass. A Garden House so packed for the performances that people were standing at the back. Chaat, chai, buffet lines, bonfires. And thunder rolling across the fields while a Krishna Leela played out on stage inside.

None of it was supposed to be possible in year one. 💛

We built this because nobody in this city had ever built it — and because families here deserved one day, together, that wasn’t squeezed into a couple of rushed hours. You gave us proof it was needed. Loudly.

Thank you, Ottawa. What we do next is bigger. 👀
