I won a giveaway from my favourite author, Katie Cross. I almost never win anything. The little egg is a “Dragul” egg. Dragul’s are tiny dragon like beings from her The Smoke and the Sea (The Isles series).

I first discovered Katie’s books through a Facebook ad for Miss Mable’s School for Girls and 50+ books and stories later I’m still entranced by the characters and worlds she creates. If you enjoy Fantasy Fiction with strong, capable & intelligent female characters - ya gotta check them out!

I’m so friggin’ happy fright now. I really needed something like this because life is on super-stress mode & I’ve been feeling overwhelmed.

I’m gradually unpacking & going through all of the boxes. We had packed everything from my studio/arts & crafts room for the past 3-4 years whilst we tried to sell our home. I’m so grateful we decided to stay here. I love this house & am looking forward to finally making it my true home.

I’m finding projects. Had forgotten about. The unreliability of my mind has made such a mess of thing as. I have a jade pendant to finish. Gawd it is embarrassing to have it lost in my memories. It is on my desk now & by gawd I’m determined to get it done & nailed out to the eternally patient woman who must be so frustrated with me and yet hasn’t said a word.

Here is the stuff that was in the box with her order…a chest packed full of mineral & rock samples. At least most are labeled. Someday I’m going to have to go through and somehow organize it all into a display.

The white box is a sample set of “Minnesota’s Rocks & Minerals” that my Great Aunt Doty used in her classroom. She was a teacher in Wisconsin for over 50 years, starting in a rural, one-room school house. Another sample she passed on to me is a tube with ash from the eruption of Mt. St. Helen’s.

Yikes! Facebook is messing with me! When I go on Facebook, thinking I’m on my personal page, it turns out I’m on this page instead. 🧐🙃😆

Next up, I start into a couple of encaustic paintings. I hope they work out. I’ve been collecting supplies for about 10 years (that stuff is stupidly expensive!) I’m excited about working with beeswax.

Crocheting is done for the year - say my hands. LOL I have a couple of frame weaving projects and a shyte-ton of sewing (altering & mending & embroidery repairs) to do. If you hear me cussing, it’s because I’m sewing!

I’ve also changed my business name to one both Dennis & I will be able to use.

I’ve only done a couple markets down here with my jewelry. I don’t know if I’ll do markets again. I get overwhelmed very quickly with all that “peopling”. Never say never though!

It makes sense for me to somewhat let go of my soul home - Terrace & the Skeena River. I’ve finally accepted I’m unlikely to ever move back. Since there is a Spirit Stones there (funerary & rock carving) I figured it makes sense to release my Skeena Spirit Stones name. I’ve notified them that I let go of the business registration and domain names.

Terrace, the Skeena River, and all her people will forever be part of my soul. I doubt I’ll ever stop how deeply I miss all of you. I’ll always be grateful for how my soul finally connected with the people and community. I did a lot of growing there & have a bazillion beautiful (and some embarrassing) memories to keep me warm at night.

Well, on to new adventures.

As you have probably noticed, I have wandered away from rocks & jewelry. My ADHD keeps me busy exploring other creative forms. Right now I’m playing with basic frame weaving and next up will be encaustic painting and remaking/altering my clothes.

I never thought I’d enjoy sewing. Well, I don’t exactly ENJOY the process, but getting something accomplished is still fun.

I’ll gradually sell off my jewelry supplies, but I’m keeping enough that I can create something when the urge hits. I still have my flat lap, trim saw and vibratory tumbler. I just can’t let them go. I’m also clinging to my Haida Gwaii agate “collection”.

Here are some punch needle wall hangings & crocheted shopping bags, plus a crocheted blanket I made. I am going to do some embroidery on the smaller punch needle projects. I forget the term, but it’s usually done on chiffon. I have a bazillion beads to use and I think they’ll add dimension.

The bigger wall hanging, with the bird, is still in the working frame. I might make it into a pillow, but, I’m not sure. As a wall-hanging it’ll probably catch dust, which I already have a surplus of.👀😳😂

No rock work yet this winter, but I did manage to complete a few creative projects.

My Hubby is travelling with my suitcase & happy about it! I painted it several years ago and it has held up to at less as three trips to the US.

I may have to wipe it down and do some re-touching. I notice that one of the Suns is looking a bit dirty.

I haven’t been doing much creating beyond diamond painting, which doesn’t involve real diamonds OR painting but it’s kind of fun. I do enjoy making the bookmarks, as well as the little sun, catchers and coasters, etc. They are fun and relatively quick to work up. I did one large painting and my ADD brain can’t handle those. I think I’m going to buy a bunch of the crystals and decorate my own work…maybe add it to paintings, book covers, etc.

Here are photos of a couple of the silly little diamond painting things I completed. I think I’ll attach crystals to these…maybe put a few on a wind chime...

This hobby reminds me of the fancy beaded embroidery my First Nations friends do (this stuff is nowhere near the quality of their work). I always wanted to try that kind of beadwork, but my hands couldn’t handle the needles. I’m satisfied with being in awe of their skills and traditional artwork.

My hands are still messed up even though I had the carpal tunnel surgery done on both wrists. I have another issue somebody called in Viking syndrome. I don’t know what it is (neither do the doctors - they just shrug and tell me to keep stretching my hands🙄). The muscles at the base of my thumb cramp up. Apparently they’re thickening and they hurt like crazy when I do anything.

Right now, I have a couple of orders that I’ve been sitting on for two years. I’m going to give them a try again. I’m going to try working on them next.

It is weird that I can do the Diamond Painting and it doesn’t hurt my hands. I’ve made the handles on the tools a lot bigger so that works out great. I hope that even exercising my hands helps. I know a lot of people avoid using their hands because of the pain, but I can’t. Other people in my family have had this and had surgery, but ended up with disable thumbs.

I wish everyone a happy new year!
