💗 WHAT WOULD DOLLY DO? 💗
Wear that outfit.
Add the sparkle.
Buy the boots.
Dream big.
Laugh loudly.
Choose kindness.
And never, ever dull yourself down to make somebody else comfortable.
There are some people whose music becomes woven into the fabric of line dancing, and Dolly Parton is most definitely one of them.
But for me, Dolly's legacy goes far beyond the music, the rhinestones and some truly magnificent hair.
As a teacher, one of the things I admire most about her is what she has done for children and literacy.
In 1995, inspired by her father, who never had the opportunity to learn to read and write, Dolly started her Imagination Library. What began in her home county in Tennessee has grown into an international programme, sending free, carefully selected books every single month to children from birth until the age of five, including our children here in the UK.
As a school teacher, that part of her story means an enormous amount to me.
So next week, we'll be dedicating a little section of our classes to Dolly, dancing to her music and celebrating the joy, kindness and generosity she has put into the world.
If you have a Dolly T-shirt, pink, denim, rhinestones or a little extra sparkle lurking in the wardrobe, absolutely wear it. ✨
I would just ask that we don't wear big Dolly wigs or caricature-style costumes. This isn't a fancy-dress night; it's our little line-dancing nod of respect.
So polish the boots. Locate the rhinestones. Add the sparkle.
And perhaps take a little bit of the message in this picture with you too:
