We wanted to share some information about an upcoming event that may be of interest to our Ontario members.

ACT BootCamp® is coming to Cleveland — October 15-18

This is a great opportunity to train with four exceptional clinicians: Steven C. Hayes, PhD (originator of ACT), along with Miranda Morris, PhD, Robyn Walser, PhD, and Diana Hill, PhD — hosted by the Institute for Better Health.

- Up to 32 CE hours
- Evening sessions the first three days, with hands-on clinical demonstrations and real plays
- A great fit whether you're new to ACT or a seasoned practitioner
- Volume discounts (5+) and student rates available

And the location is convenient too — Cleveland is just a short drive or a quick hop across the border from many parts of Ontario (under 90 minutes by air). These trainings only happen once or twice a year, so it's a nice chance to catch this lineup without a long trip, and a nice opportunity to get some brief travel in!

As a bonus, proceeds support a charitable organization developing new case conceptualization and monitoring tools for the field.

Register at ibh.com/events. Tickets are limited, so don't wait too long!

Our upcoming Ontario ACBS AGM will be held on Tuesday, May 5th from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm ET over Zoom.

This year's meeting will feature a special presentation from Greg Samuelson RN, RP: Understanding and Exploring Compassion Using the Framework of Compassion Focused Therapy.

Here is a summary of the talk:

Compassion Focused Therapy is a Mindfulness Based Therapy.

Paul Gilbert, the founder of Compassion Focused Therapy defines it as: a science based, integrative (consilient), evolution informed biopsychosocial approach to the human mind, addressing the dark side, promoting caring connections to self and others, hence pro-sociality and well-being.

This talk will be participatory and include exercises, exploration, and dialogue.

We will explore the idea of Compassion and how Compassionate Mind Training and Compassion Focused Therapy define the concept of compassion and where it is placed in the framework of motivations, emotions, competencies, and behaviours. We will also talk about the flows of compassion and do experiential exercises designed to activate the brain systems that help us to act in compassionate ways and to understand the facilitators and inhibitors to accessing compassion.
