I did a quick little painting today to practice painting steam from a cup before I tried it on the bigger canvas. I have never attempted steam or smoke before. Any advice on the steam would be welcome. What kind of brush you use, how you achieve your strokes, colour mixes?

There is a small group of us that meet every Friday to paint, with the encouraging and knowledgeable input from our mentor, Cathy Leeming. Usually we all paint whatever we want, but, occasionally she will give a class. This was a class on painting clouds, and waves and shore colours. Mostly a lesson on letting loose, painting quickly. So this painting took me two hours ( although I snuck few other brush strokes after the time limit). It’s fun to just let loose sometimes.
