Atlas Wutapumitukew Lowry, MA (they/iel) is a drama therapist working with children, families, and young adults in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal). Raised in the United States with Indigenous (Lumbee) and mixed European (British, Irish, & Ashkenazi) ancestry, Atlas advocates for the examination of our own relationships with Turtle Island (North America) in the midst of the ever-changing political and ecological crises.

Any ecosystem is influenced by the elements that enter its radius. In a personal-ecosystem now driven by AI, social media, and digital technologies (phones, internet, etc.), we may often overlook the impact this has on our mental health (both as clinicians and as humans). This workshop will explore the alarming research about the harmful impact of digital technologies on mental health, some of the new presenting problems clients may have, and our own ethical dilemmas about how we engage with these technologies. The interactive elements explore potential solutions of how to understand these technologies as clinicians and help clients re-connect with the natural world around us to promote better mental health.

Consulting a Therapeutic Medium: Expanding the Expressive Therapies Continuum for Assessment and Treatment Planning in Drama Therapy

Meaghen Buckley (they/she) is a drama therapist and couple and family therapist in private practice, with a focus on intercultural therapy and on complex trauma.

This workshop will present the Expressive Therapies Continuum (ETC) as a framework for assessment and treatment planning, based on my recent research on expanding the Media Dimension Variables (MDV) to include drama therapy practice. Participants will receive an overview of the ETC and its application in drama therapy, and will contribute to a collective understanding of how the framework might become more widely used and useful in drama therapy.

Theatre of the Oppressed and the Power Exercise is presented by Jessica Bleueuer May 15th at 3:30PM EST, ONLINE and IN-PERSON.

Jessica Bleuer, PhD, RDT is an Assistant drama therapy professor and researcher looking at the intersection between systemic oppression and individual wellness.

Her research focuses on the geopolitical determinants of health, climate change and racial equity, more specifically how the nervous system responds to sociopolitical events and strategies to stay present in the face of collective trauma.

This workshop will focus on diverse applications of Augusto Boal's Power Exercise, a Theatre of the Oppressed technique.

The power exercise is an applied theatre method that aims to conscientize a group of people about the power dynamics related to a particular social issue.

The workshop will invite participants to experience the power exercise as it was originally constructed to address social change. Participants will be shown how the same exercise can be used in clinical settings and how it becomes applicable to both group and individual drama therapy practice.
