Happy (belated) International Women’s Day! ✨ Today we’re celebrating the brilliant artists behind NOLI, which will be featured in Talisman’s upcoming season, in collaboration with Infinitheatre Montréal. Author Virginie Daigle and translator Alexis Diamond are engaging in an inspiring collaboration on this powerful new work that explores women's empowerment, self-expression, and a character's search for meaning.
Discover the synopsis of NOLI below.
Jule, an actress in need of love and contracts, earns her living as a daycare educator. Between two auditions for a chicken commercial and a third role in a detective series (neither of which she lands), she finds solace in the stories she invents and tells children.
Her life is turned upside down when she discovers NOLI, an empowering, feminist audio po*******hy app. This fictional universe liberates a world of ideas within her, presenting new and unprecedented perspectives that teach her things about herself.
'NOLI' explores themes of sexuality, intimacy, and finding one's authentic self. It encourages us to listen to our innermost needs and to create spaces where we can express ourselves freely and engage in fulfilling connections without shame or judgment. It celebrates erotic art and sex-positivity as a vehicle for empowerment.
The work employs a unique literary style that blends realistic dialogue, poetic language, and experimental techniques, creating a sense of fluidity and dreamlike transitions. In doing so, the play defies traditional dramatic conventions through its unique fusion of realism and lyricism.
