Coming back to curate my first big show after my accident at one of my favourite festivals, Festival des Traditions du Monde de Sherbrooke, was nothing short of sacred. I stepped out of my hiatus as a show organizer, artistic director, performer, and emcee… and the only words I can use to describe how it all came together are: In Harmony.
On August 15, India’s Independence Day, we opened the show with the Indian national anthem. Tears of joy filled my eyes as the entire room...mostly non-Indian audience members, rose in reverence. In that moment, my heart swelled and eyes filled with tears of joy.
From the very first entrance to the final applause, every artist sprinkled their own kind of magic-dust upon the audience. Each movement, sound, rhythm, costume, voice, and expression carried spirit, devotion, and heart.
I stand in deep humility and awe of this path the Divine has placed before me...to express, preserve, and share our cultural art forms with such love and devotion.
Thank you, Festival des Traditions du Monde de Sherbrooke, for trusting me for a fourth year to represent Indian culture at your beautiful festival. Thank you to the entire team for the respect, care, and warmth you extend to us as artists.
To every artist who believed in the vision and brought your energy, talent, and soul into this experience: thank you. You made this show what it was.
And to the audience...thank you. Your presence, openness, and incredible energy fueled us with absolute joy.
My heart is full. We came together… in harmony. 🇮🇳✨
