For a while I've been all about line art, but it was time to play around with colours and textures, so this week I bring you this little fairy dragon, a fearless lightbringer with a glowing belly of fire for attracting and incinerating his insect enemies, as well as diaphanous wings.

Back to another episode from Cat and Ghosts - this week has been hectic, to say the least - but not quite as unpredictable as the massive gas leak last year. Having been forced to suddenly evacuate my flat, this little sketch was finished while I was holed up in the cinema in the basement deep below the public library, quietly thinking to myself that if everything exploded, no one would find my body.

Another diversion from the Cat and Ghosts series because it was a beautiful day to do chalk art instead for the te ara awataha walkway!

Often the question we get asked as creators is whether we just do what we do for ourselves as an individualistic expression, that people can say whatever they want, what matters most is personal satisfaction. Or whether having our work experienced and thought about is the most important thing. Usually, I think it's a bit of both. Today, the people who walked past me as I was chalking were some of the kindest. To know that a bit of art could genuinely brighten people's days just sort of underlined how important these kinds of projects are to the community. The awe that I get from people who tell me they had no idea you could do this sort of thing with chalk (or finger painting or tinfoil or sand or any of the other random media I can get my hands on) is a good reminder to keep pushing for the extraordinary.

Ever wonder why cats eat grass? Perhaps it's the ghosts whispering in their ears.

If we truly had the option of having our souls' appearances reflect our own self-image vs the one we present to others, how many of us would only have one look?
