ODC Productions made it into Festival St-Ambroise Fringe de Montréal's early bird bunch for the 2027 edition of the festival.

And I'm thrilled to announce that my next Fringe show is going to be an unintentionally explosive comedy!

The Violence Budget follows an independent filmmaker who just wants to make a light, simple and funny character study à la Shirley Valentine. When the producer blows their budget casting a famous actress in the lead role, they enlist an unlikely sponsor: the army.

I'll be spending the next few months writing the thing, but if you're a theatre friend and this sounds like a project you'd like to be part of, let's talk!

Boo!

That's roughly the sound Paul Shanker de Tourreil made in the role of Ezekiel the ghost, in my very short play, Inconvenient House Ghost (directed by Joe Garque), also with Colin Nash and Natalie Demmon as Jordan and Maria, respectively, a very corporate couple that would like to negotiate better haunting times. Obviously, they all nailed it!

My short play was one of 7 that was performed last weekend during Moment Theatre Collective's Stage Fright event.

How did it come together? First, playwrights had to submit scripts for consideration by early June. Once selections were made, each script was assigned to a director and actors. Then, the director and actors had one weekend - ONE WEEKEND - to rehearse the play, followed by one dress rehearsal, followed by showtime.

When I tell you that each performance was a testament to the craft of performance...I almost can't believe such amazing work was created is such a short amount of time, but then I remember that incredibly talented people were involved.

I want to heartily thank Heidi Hawkins for encouraging to submit a play, and Danielle Davidson for the kind words and for coordinating the s**t out of this thing. And I'd like to tip my hat to all the amazing writers I feel humbled to have shared space with last weekend (Paul Van Dyck, Mengzhou Li, Valerie Free, Dan Jeannotte, Thomas Barnwell, M. Leander Kalil).

What a unique project to have been a part of, and what a great way to spend a Saturday night.

Don't sleep on Moment Theatre Collective's next thing!

Our show had a sponsor - Friperie - La Confection - which you might have noticed on our program.

I'm proud to tell you all about them and their noble mission in this post. But most importantly, I want you to go to their pop-up on June 28.

Thank you WestmountMag.ca for this lovely story about The Paranoid King.

Both myself and director Keith Fernandez were interviewed for the piece. My favourite quote of his is the following:

"With all the respect in the world - I have never directed something so camp and something so stupid! Though the story is based on true events and people, Olivia has brought it into the 21st century through its delivery with modern-day text, language that plays between times, and we are absolutely committed to having a good time and being as silly as possible when telling this story."

It warms my heart in a special way to have been covered by Cittadino Canadese in Italian, the language of my ancestors.

Thank you so much, Giulia Verticchio, for this story about the play, and also about the journey to reconnect with my heritage as a third-generation Italian-Canadian.

About opening night...

A first only happens once, and I couldn't be more proud of the Paranoid King team for making this first show count.

👗Hats off to Meredith Marty-Dugas for the on-brand costume design, highlighting the essence of the poster art.
