The Paranoid King synopsis: Meet King Ashurhaddon (713–669 B.C.), the Assyrian ruler so paranoid he turned his advisors into full-time therapists. Every weird cloud, twitchy bird, or slightly off sheep liver sent him sprinting to his team of astrologers, exorcists, and diviners with frantic clay-tablet memos: “The gods are mad at me—fix it!!” This goofy, fast-paced play dives into his reign of royal freak-outs and proves one timeless truth: superstition + anxiety = the worst comedy special ever performed on a throne.
