In this quiet moment, he is learning more than how to blend a gradient.
He is learning how to slow his hands, steady his breath, and listen to the process.
There is no sound in this video—not because nothing is happening, but because everything is.
His deep concentration.
The careful adjustments.
The small pauses.
And then, the joy of realizing he created something smooth, balanced, and beautiful.
In a culture that constantly pushes speed, productivity, and quick results, we often forget that meaningful learning happens in these slow, meditative spaces. When students are given time to explore, to repeat, to make mistakes, and to notice what their hands and eyes are doing, they develop not only skill but confidence, patience, and trust in themselves.
.
Process-oriented learning invites students to stay present with their work instead of rushing toward an outcome. It reminds us that joy is found in the making, not just the finished product. Ironically, when we slow down, the work becomes stronger, more thoughtful, and more sustainable in the long run.
This is what care-based teaching looks like:
holding space for focus, curiosity, and quiet pride.
letting the process lead.
and allowing students to fall in love with learning..

What is Mon Studio Art?
It began as a space to share my love of art and creative exploration. Over time, it has grown alongside my practice—shaped by my experiences as an artist, the knowledge I’ve gained from my students, and my journey as an art educator.
I’m currently pursuing a Master’s in Art Education at Concordia, with a focus on process-oriented, care-based art education. This approach values the creative journey, emotional well-being, and personal meaning over the pressure to produce a “finished” product.
What I once thought was simply my instinctive way of teaching, I now understand as part of a much larger body of research and practice rooted in experiential, care-focused education. This work continues to shape how I teach, learn, and create—with my own children and with the many students I’ve had the privilege to learn alongside.
This page is for students, educators, and anyone who believes learning can be reflective, relational, and deeply human. I’ll be sharing readings from my graduate studies, projects, resources, and ideas for expanding art education practices—alongside the art sessions we already hold in the studio.
Education is a lifelong process, and art education plays a vital role in nurturing a more holistic experience of learning.
If this resonates, follow along as we explore art, education, and research through curiosity, care, and process.

A little check-in from the studio! ✨ I’ve been a bit MIA lately, immersed in deep work—both in the studio and in the classroom. I recently returned to school to pursue my Master’s in Art Education at Concordia, driven by a desire to expand my understanding and continually improve the ways I support the incredible artists who walk through our doors.
Today, we’re exploring clay, paint, and texture—with a special focus on the subtle, soothing sounds of creation. Watch, listen, and experience the quiet magic of hands at work. I can’t wait to share the incredible creativity these young artists are producing!
