When you slam the door too hard...
The facade of this house in the English seaside town of Margate appears to stand out from the rest of the building and sag into the courtyard adjacent to the street.
British designer Alex Chinneck created this installation by removing the facade of a four-storey house that had been abandoned for eleven years and replacing it with a new facade that leaves the top floor exposed and visible.
The lower part of the house has slid down to lie flat in front of the house. This humorous art installation can be understood and appreciated by any viewer. Located on Godwin Road, the house had been acquired by the municipality and allocated for social housing, but nothing was done for a year and the structure was in a state of disrepair. This installation reveals this inner decay but the new façade gives it a new dimension.
