Here ia a little video and write up on my Puffin painting "Larger Than Life"

I painted this Puffin larger that its actual size in real life.
There was a reason for this.
The Atlantic Puffin is under a foot in size, weighs just under a pound, but it packs a punch in skills.

Did you know?
-They fly through the air at up to 58mph (93km/h).
-They dive into frigid water to depths of more than 130 feet.
-They can flap their wings up to 600 times per minute.
-They can catch and carry 10-20 fish in their mouth all at the same time.
-They mate for life and touch beaks when they reunite.
-They can live up to 40 years.

Fun Fact: Their beaks can glow under UV light! Scientists discovered back in 2018, that the yellow ridges light up in fluorescent colors when placed under UV light.

When I started this painting, I didn't know all the info above, but it was a great journey getting to know more about these birds with information I found and painting him/her on my canvas.

My Puffin painting is now finished!

I have titled it "Larger Than Life".
My thought process and the meaning of the title, will be posted tomorrow.

It is 18x24 inches on a gallery canvas (1.5 inch thick).
I hope I did him justice 😀

Prints & Cards of this painting will be available this Saturday at the Salisbury Farmers and Artisans Market from 8am to 1:30pm. Along with the original 😁

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I didn't work on any of my regular paintings today as I normally don't on Sundays. But I had some ideas pop in my head. So I though doing some quick miniture colour studies would give me a visual of what may become part of a larger painting.

What do you think? Should I bring these next Saturday to the market? The mini easels would be included 😀

All set up at the Salisbury Farmers and Artisans Market until 1 30pm.

I have some of my workshop paintings (boards and canvas that I've done in my painting classes that I teach). They are $20 -$30 each.

I also have my regular paintings as well as the work in progress Puffin painting, prints, cards, and hand-painted coasters.

Come on out and enjoy all the vendors.

New Projects!

First photo is a work in progress and not finished yet! This one is 18x24. There is a lot more to go. Thanks to my teen for the photo 😀

Second photo is a new 11x14 painting of a female ruby-throated hummingbird with a lily, titled: "Nature's Tiny Gem". This one will have a natural wood floating frame. It will be varnished tomorrow. This is the first female hummingbird I've painted 😀

Reminder: I will be at Salisbury Farmers and Artisans Market this Saturday, August 15 from 8am to 1:30pm. Hope to see you there! I just may have the puffin painting with me 😀
