Your Story Matters – Speak Up to Save the LBA

Miramichi families are facing a growing challenge: there’s simply not enough ice time to meet the needs of our kids and teams. With the Lord Beaverbrook Arena (LBA) set to close and the new Miramichi Multiplex providing only one ice surface, this issue is about to get much worse.

If you’ve struggled to find ice time, had to travel outside the city limits for practices or games, or faced cancellations because of conflicts, now is the time to share your story with our local leaders.

Here’s how you can help:

Write to your city councillors, the mayor, and your MLA or MP. Let them know how the lack of ice time is impacting your family and our community.
Share your story of how often and when you’ve had to travel to places like Sunny Corner, Baie-Ste-Anne, or Renous just to get ice time for your child’s practice or game.
Include specific examples, like tournaments that couldn’t happen due to scheduling conflicts or missed opportunities for our kids.
Your voice can make a difference. Decision-makers need to hear from those directly impacted to understand how critical it is to keep the LBA open and ensure Miramichi has the three ice surfaces it desperately needs.

We need every parent, coach, and user of the LBA to step forward. Together, we can show the full picture of what’s at stake for our families, our athletes, and our community.

Speak up today. Share your story and encourage others to do the same. Let’s work together to ensure Miramichi’s kids stay on the ice, where they belong.

Take Action to Save the LBA – Miramichi Needs 3 Ice Surfaces

Miramichi currently has only two ice surfaces, and families are already struggling to find enough ice time for their kids. With the new Miramichi Multiplex being built with just one ice surface, the planned closure of the Lord Beaverbrook Arena will lead to a continued shortage. A big problem for our families is only getting worse.

Many families are already traveling to other communities like Sunny Corner, Baie-Ste-Anne, and Renous just to access practices and games. Without the LBA, our community will lose even more opportunities for local sports and recreation.

We need three ice surfaces to meet the growing demand for hockey, figure skating, and other ice sports. This is about more than just ice—it’s about ensuring our kids have opportunities to thrive and our community continues to grow and stay connected.

We need your voice. Contact the mayor, councillors, MLA, and MP to let them know how important it is to keep the LBA open. Share your concerns and make sure our leaders understand that Miramichi families cannot afford to lose this vital resource.

Speak up, share this post, and encourage others to take action. Together, we can make a difference and ensure Miramichi has the facilities to meet the needs of our families now and in the future. Let’s keep the LBA open and make sure no one is left without a place to play.

🏒 Honoring the History of the LBA – A Community Icon 🏒

Since its opening in 1955, the Lord Beaverbrook Arena (LBA) has been a cornerstone of the Miramichi community. For nearly seven decades, it has been a place where generations of families have gathered to skate, cheer on their favorite teams, and create lifelong memories. From hockey tournaments to public skating, the LBA has been more than just a rink—it’s been a hub for community connection.

But as plans move forward to open the new Miramichi Multiplex, the closure of the LBA threatens to leave our community with only two ice surfaces—an amount that simply can’t meet the growing needs of Miramichi families.

Right now, many parents are already traveling to nearby communities like Sunny Corner, Baie-Ste-Anne, and Renous for practices and games because of a lack of ice time. With the LBA gone, this issue will only get worse.

❄️ Why Miramichi Needs 3 Ice Surfaces

Increased demand for ice time: Our community is growing, and so are the needs of local teams, schools, and families.
Support for youth sports: Hockey, figure skating, and other ice sports are crucial for the development, fitness, and teamwork skills of our kids.
Economic and community impact: Arenas like the LBA bring people together, support local businesses, and provide a space for events beyond sports.
The LBA has stood the test of time, but its closure could create a void in our community. Together, we must advocate for keeping three ice surfaces in Miramichi to ensure that our kids and families have the opportunities they need to skate, play, and thrive.

Let’s honor the history of the LBA by ensuring it continues to be a vital resource for future generations. 💙
