ARTisAN expression is a luxury brand showcasing the work of Canadian artist, Matthew Douglas

Kawartha and Toronto artist Matthew Douglas works under a fundamental belief that we, "are all works of art and artists at work. We all have the unique ability to create light and love wherever we are and whoever we are. Matthew's luxury brand ARTisAN expression is a statement that simple things can be beautiful things. His art-is-an expression of how he sees the world and an effort to help people

see beauty in the simple things.

Mediums like: transparent acrylic paintings, concrete sinks, lighting, and heirloom furniture are all created to inspire. Matthew creates on a commissioned basis and would love to create something that inspires you. You can also choose items from the website that you would like recreated for you.

Hot tub time! My favorite part was reconfiguring the screened porch and building a cedar door from the left overs of the Sauna build in the summer. It just felt right that they should be together ❤ haha. That and my little friends watching me work.

No matter how many times I do it there's just something so nerving about cutting a hole into a roof! But it's all done right. Getting set for the WETT inspection for a cozy fireplace 🔥☃️

What do you love more: the piece you create or the person you create it for? For me it's definitely about the person, but there are rare and special times when the piece is as beautiful as the people. These stunning slabs were cut from a spalted maple. It has everything in the figure: birds eye, quilting, spalting, compression, just WOW 🫨! A massive custom 5ft mold was used to add in timeless black epoxy. This one was HUUUUGE. Here's the journey. This isn't the nicest table I've built but it was a special one. I noticed that one of our firewood logs were hickory and would match the hickory floors in the loft. A perfect opportunity to use our new sawmill (stay tuned for a future endeavour). So my superwoman wife, Mary-Beth and I milled our first log! Also, an honourable mention is the concrete counters with waterfall that turned out really nice. I added a matching anchor leg for the live-edge table. I think it's a beautiful pairing. What do you think?

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: a fantastic client wanted something special for her daughter for this Sunday, a sauna. The property is water access only and we couldn't find any barges or pontoons to help. So I built the, "Budget Barge" 😂. I then enlisted my friend to help with the site prep and build. It was a wild adventure and we got the build and delivery done all today. It is such a peaceful retreat now. A special thanks to Casa De Sauna for helping with the delivery and to Captain Dan. I can't believe we pulled it off. Praise the Lord 🙌🏻

I got to use my mortiser and slick chisel and it made this little timber frame portico so enjoyable! These hemlock timbers were salvaged from the Toronto Distillery District and were casualties of the great fire in 1869 155yrs ago. You can see charring on the interior ceiling joist. A great conversation piece before you even get through the front door. I think it creatively frames the entrance and has great proportions.

I saw a cable railing a few years ago and it always stuck with me. When the opportunity came I finally got the chance to fabricate my own. I let the sparks fly, fired up the welder, and had a lot of fun. What do you think of the railing and rail ladder? Do you like the cable or prefer something more traditional?

My "Ashton" chandelier made from beautiful old growth hemlock hangs delicately on wire cable powering the soft led lighting. My sweet daughter refers to it as, "modern rustic". What do you think?
