STUDIO DOCUMENTATION | KINGDOM OF DUST

The upper cavern is beginning to take its final architectural form.

Each section of stone has been individually shaped, coated in plaster, textured and painted to create the gradual transition from the dark foreground into the distant opening. Dozens of stalactites were formed and placed throughout the ceiling while the ship was repeatedly positioned to establish the scale, perspective and strongest sightlines through the cavern.

The next stages will introduce the painted translucent sky, layered clouds, atmospheric lighting and distant rock formations. From there, the water will be coloured and poured in resin before the waterfalls, moss, weathering and final environmental details are added.

This is already beginning to carry the depth and drama I imagined when I first designed it…and we are only seeing the foundation of what it will become.

Sometimes I forget that other people can’t yet see the finished vision living so clearly in my mind.

After being asked a few times what exactly this is becoming… I thought these progress photos might help tell the story.

This is Kingdom of Dust… a one-of-one cinematic narrative installation and the next work in my Cinematic Narrative Series.

What began as layers of carved foam has now been coated in plaster and entered its first stage of painting. Slowly, those raw materials are disappearing and the ancient cave I envisioned is beginning to emerge around the ship.

There is still an entire world to build beyond what you see here… water, waterfalls, distant sky, lighting, treasure, greenery and countless details that will give the scene its life and meaning.

This is only the beginning… but perhaps now you can see the vision too.

The next round of presentation mailers for There But for the Grace of is being prepared to make its way into the world.

Each package introduces the complete Titanic installation, its original April 16, 1912 newspaper and the archival provenance collection created to accompany it.

Carefully assembled… carefully placed… and sent with the hope that this extraordinary story reaches the person or institution it was meant to find.

The voyage continues.

Something massive is taking shape behind the doors of Art Encompassed…

KINGDOM OF DUST is slowly emerging from raw lumber, antique fragments and mountains of carved foam. What you’re seeing now is only the skeleton of an entire lost world… a towering pirate ship, immense caverns, cascading water, buried treasure and a story suspended somewhere between salvation and ruin.

This will be my largest and most ambitious cinematic narrative installation yet.

I’m seriously considering firing up my TikTok again after a very long pause to document the transformation from the first piece of lumber to the final cinematic reveal.

I need your help choosing Marilyn’s look! ❤️

I’m sculpting a Marilyn Monroe-inspired figure for a new cinematic piece and Shaun is building this gorgeous 1:25 scale 1952 Hudson Hornet convertible for the scene.

The finished piece will be built inside an authentic 1950s television, with the car set against a dimensional Hollywood Hills sunset. Marilyn will be sitting in the car fixing her lipstick in the rear-view mirror.

Now I’m torn on her outfit! Part of me loves the idea of full Hollywood bombshell glamour because… well, it’s Marilyn and that car is a bombshell too. 😂 But I also love the idea of making her feel softer, younger and more real… like we’ve caught her in a private little moment rather than a posed photograph.

I’m going to post the outfit options next… tell me which one you would choose! 👀❤️
