I have a new friend!
'Scooch' resides in my herb garden, taking up its sundrenched residence on my freshly planted parsley.
Now in the caterpillar stage, this beautiful 'Papilio polyxenes' skips over the cocoon stage altogether as it gradually morphs into the gorgeous Black Swallowtail butterfly it is destined to be.
This transformation will take between 4 to 6 weeks and involves two main stages: the actively eating caterpillar phase (larva), and the resting transformation phase (chrysalis).
We will have to wait to learn the gender, which will be a nice surprise, being determined only when it emerges and reveals the colours and pattern on the wings.
Males present with more yellow spots, whereas females get to show off with more prominent iridescent blue.
An additional, pleasing element that comes with my Resonate Cell Phonography endeavor is a keen urge to learn more about the fascinating world around me, thus keeping my mind tuned up and constantly growing.
