The idea for the OEV Virtual Hub developed as a way to continue the work started by the Creative Community Roundtable oev-ccrt.ca. The CCRT was developed by volunteers in the community as a way to keep the OEV informed and up to date on all the events, activities and projects taking place. Due to lack of money and people to take on the tasks of maintaining and promoting the CCRT the project was to
o much work for one or two people to take on and it folded. It still is a lot of work, and there is no funding for this project. This is truly a labour of love. The hope is to continue to build and maintain the OEV Hub as a cultural database of everything that makes up the "culture" of the OEV. With respect to the many changes and wonderful additions in the life of the neighbourhood and the way the community has developed over the past couple of years it is important that this virtual hub is inclusive and collaborative to encompass a wider definition of the word “culture”. This is the extended vision of the virtual hub which we hope you will support and help us build. VISION:
The OEV Hub considers culture to be a “lived” and living part of the local fabric here in the OEV. Culture is about the people, the art, the food, the creativity, the history & heritage of a particular location. Culture to us includes: arts, crafts, music, food, sustainability, gardens, restaurants, destination shopping and more. The OEV Hub is a central point of access to all events, artists, cultural happenings, food, places to stay, exhibitions, shows, performances, museums, theatres, concert halls, design, cultural teachers, arts, crafts and more taking place, living and teaching, exhibiting and performing in the OEV. The OEV Hub works to promote the Old East Village as a destination spot for the people of London, tourists visiting from anywhere in Canada and those visiting London from their homes in the U.S., and the rest of the world. The OEV Hub will continue to develop with the guidance and input of the OEV community and work collaboratively with the organizations and individuals that support the development of the OEV as a cultural centre.
