Exploding Kittens Inc. sales manager becomes Kickstarter's new head of games

Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter has hired Maggie Clayton as its new head of games. Clayton will replace Jon Ritter-Roderick as he transitions within the company to lead the Kickstarter Performance team.
In her new role, Clayton will oversee a team "dedicated to engaging with and advocating for games creators," working to foster relationships with new and returning creators while providing guidance to help bring their projects to fruition.
Prior to joining Kickstarter, Clayton served as senior manager of North American sales at Exploding Kittens, Inc., itself a record-breaking Kickstarter creator. She also spent time working with large and small-scale publishers and has designed games herself.

EA CEO says studio 'needed' genAI for EA College Football 25 development

EA Sports College Football 25 isn't just a big hit for EA, it also marked the publisher's first public use of generative AI. And according to Andrew Wilson, the technology was the only way for EA Orlando to reach the full scope of the game.
During last week's quarterly earnings call, the EA CEO was asked about genAI being used to bring real-world players (or "star heads") into the game. Previous sports games required 500-1,000 star heads, but College 25 had 11,000.

Valve implementing new rules to 'refine' Steam store page written descriptions

Valve is imposing new restrictions on written Steam store page content to ensure developers are only sharing relevant information.
The company says some developers are using store pages to "present information or links" that distract from learning about games themselves, making it "challenging" for consumers to make educated purchasing decisions.
"We want players to be able to learn about your game! And so, to make for a more positive experience on Steam (for devs and players), we're introducing new rules beginning in September," reads a blog post.
