We are constantly asked why we don't collect donations for charity, and often people are frustrated that we don't. I will try to explain our side and reasoning and you may understand or continue to disagree and that is fine.

First, we want people to come simply to enjoy the light show, and not to feel pressured into giving when that pressure can feel huge this month from all angles. Some people are not in a place to give right now.

Second, I don't want to be responsible for holding on to everyone else's money until it is donated to the charity. This is huge and you really don't need a middle man to trust with your money. Please donate as your heart desires to whatever charity you would like to give to and bonus: get a tax receipt for it! It does seem wrong and deceitful to collect a tax receipt myself for your donated money.

Lastly, we are a busy family and the light show does add a lot to our life as it is. Collecting donations would just be one more thing for me to look after when I already have my plate quite full.

So please, if our light show inspires you to give, go to your favourite charity and make a donation. There are many wonderful local places to give to and it is especially appreciated this time of year!
