Going back to the Tome of Magic we are looking at my favourite spell from each tier. Necromancer's can be a great addition to any fantasy game, both as a villain or as a player. Not all necromancer's need to be evil. Some seek out this knowledge to aid the sick and dying, whether to cure them or guide them to the other side. While there are many various "animate dead" spells on the list, I decided to choose some more interesting spells.
Favourite spells: Necromancer
Dark mages that channel the powers of death, the grave, and the spirit world.
WOUND
Tier 1, Necromancer
Duration: 5 Rounds
Range: Near
You curse a target that will take an additional point of damage from any attacks.
TALKING SKULL
Tier 2, Necromancer
Duration: Special
Range: Close
You enchant an existing skull to speak up to 25 words. At the time of casting, you choose
what triggers the skull to speak. Once triggered, the spell ends and the skull becomes inert.
FLOATING SKULL
Tier 3, Necromancer
Duration: Focus
Range: Near
You conjure a skull to float before you. You can focus through its eye sockets and see in the dark. While focused you cannot move, attack, or cast other spells. As an action you can move the skull Near distance.
DOOM FOG
Tier 4, Necromancer
Duration: 5 Rounds
Range: Near
A Near-sized area of dark grey fog surrounds you. Everyone within the fog has Disadvantage
on all attacks and spells as they begin to see their darkest fears in the mist. You can designate a number of creatures equal to your level that are immune to the fear effect.
RAISE GHOST SHIP
Tier 5, Necromancer
Duration: Instant
Range: Near
Casting this spell near a shipwreck will cause it to rise from the sea along with the spirits of the crew. The ship is sea-worthy, even if severely damaged, and sails under your control. The spirit crew will not obey any instructions outside of sailing the ghost ship.
