Pieces | A Story of Two Newcomer Artists

A glimpse into a very special evening that brought together art, storytelling, culture, and community. 🤍

Pieces was born from the idea that every experience we live becomes a piece of who we are. Some pieces stay, some change, some we let go of, and some we find again.

On August 22, Rafik and I had the opportunity to share our work and our journeys with our community here in Kitchener-Waterloo.

I’m deeply grateful to everyone who came, supported us, listened to our stories, engaged with the artwork, and shared the evening with us. Your presence made Pieces more meaningful than we could have imagined.

A special thank you to Rafik Samer / Shapers for capturing this evening so beautifully through film. 🎥 This is one piece of our journey that we will carry with us.

We are all shaped by the pieces we carry.

✨ Community Art Workshops Proposal ✨

I am currently offering community-based art workshops designed for community centres, nonprofits, cultural organizations, and educational spaces.

As a visual artist and educator with over 10 years of experience in painting and drawing, my workshops focus on:
• Building confidence through artistic expression
• Creating safe spaces for dialogue and storytelling
• Supporting newcomers and diverse communities
• Encouraging emotional awareness through visual art
• Strengthening community connection through shared creativity

Workshops can be tailored for:
– Youth
– Women’s groups
– Newcomers
– Multicultural communities
– Intergenerational groups

📸 I took this photo on my first day in the studio on August 6th, 2025.
I received this space through the ABO Meanwhile Spaces program , which supports artists by providing dedicated workspaces. As a newcomer artist, having this opportunity has been a huge, life-changing step for me.

For those who may not know, having a place to create is incredibly important for an artist. This studio has helped me finish my project and begin many new ones.
And yes, I jokingly call the stairs in the photo “the stairs to heaven” 😜✨
