Batik is a very ancient form of fabric decoration, originating in the Far East. It is a wax resist process; the designs are created with alternate applications of hot wax and dye. Sarah Hale is one of the few Canadian artists specializing in batik as a landscape medium, and she has found the process uniquely suited to capturing the colours and textures of the rocky terrain around the village of Ar

den. All of Sarah’s original works are drawn freehand with melted wax on cotton and other natural fabrics.
