Amazon's Fallout show and Walton Goggins score some Emmy nominations

The Emmys has revealed its nominees for the 2023-2024 season, and Prime Video's Fallout walked away with 16 total nominations.
Of the bunch, the most prestigious is "Best Drama," putting it alongside big series like The Crown, Sh**un, and 3-Body Problem. Acting-wise, Walton Goggins was the sole actor to get recognized, earning a "Best Actor" nod for playing The Ghoul, aka Cooper Howard.
On a technical level, Fallout's nominations included "Outstanding Title Design," "Best Makeup (Period or Sci-Fi/Fantasy)," and "Outstanding Writing" for its pilot episode.
This makes Fallout the second video game adaptation to earn nominations in big Emmy categories, following the success of HBO's The Last of Us from last year. That series went on to win eight Creative Emmys, including "Outstanding Title Design" and "Outstanding VFX."

Game Informer Magazine is shutting down

After 33 years, Game Informer will be no more.
The publication announced its end on social media, and according to Kotaku, is finished effective immediately. It was mid-digital coverage of The Casting of Frank Stone, while its final print issue covers Dragon Age: Veilguard.
"From the early days of pixelated adventures to today's immersive, virtual realms, we've been honored to share this incredible journey with you," reads the magazine's statement. "While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming we've cultivated together will continue to live on."
That statement, according to sources speaking to Kotaku, was not written by any now-ex staff. In fact, one staffer was reportedly on a business trip when everyone was told about the magazine's closure.

Unity CEO says he's 'less focused' on generative AI

As the game industry is becoming embroiled in the current and potential use of generative AI, Unity CEO Matt Bromberg is "less focused" on it at the moment.
Speaking with VentureBeat, he said the engine maker is prioritizing "how we can help customers make games more efficiently and less expensively." While he believes genAI can help with that, there's bigger concerns than the controversial technology.
"Unity is agnostic to the derivation of the 3D asset. It can be created in AI," he said. "When you make games, you ingest your assets into the engine and then you start building. We’re interested in that moment and everything that comes after."

Spiders devs to strike after alleging mismanagement, 'growing instability'

Update: In a statement provided to Insider Gaming, a Spiders representative called the allegations from STJV "false and even accusatory."
The statement went on to say the claims "in no way" reflect the studio's day-to-day work life, and attack Spiders' reputation. It also affirmed management's commitment to "open and constructive social dialogue."
"Spiders’ employees are the heart of the studio," the statement concludes, "and we are determined to maintain an inclusive and stimulating working environment in which every talent can flourish and of which we can all be proud."
