“If I were to give advice to someone moving to Nova Scotia I would say: you are going to use your professional skills, knowledge, and experience eventually; but when you first get here you will rely most heavily on your resilience, ability to squash negative emotions, strength of resolve, your ability to see things differently; outside-the-box-thinking; and your persistence in believing that all the reasons you moved here were the right ones and every step you take to getting settled will bring you and your family to a brighter and better day!”

"I moved here from a small town in Ontario, where everyone knows everything about everybody. My girlfriend was moving to Halifax for school, and it took me less than a second to agree. I was honestly terrified applying for jobs, but after 5 months, I found steady work in my trained field of heritage restoration. I don’t plan on moving away any time soon… But if it keeps snowing, Bermuda sounds nice." - Simon Holton / Port Hope, Ontario

" I moved to Canada when I was 16—mid-way through high school. I wanted to try something new and experience a different culture in the best way I knew how. My only complaint—sandwiches are too expensive here."

"One thing you miss most about home is family. Over Christmas my best mate and I were offered invitations to 6 different dinners from families around town. It was really touching to know people were willing to open up their family holiday to someone who had only been here 6 months. It was also pretty cool to see how Canadians celebrate their Christmas as opposed to swimming, barbecues, and backyard cricket."
