Workshop dates: August 11th to 18th, 2024

Vocalypse Productions invites singers and composers at the university to professional level to apply for the 10th season of Opera From Scratch! This immersive week long workshop in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada allows six composers and six singers to develop six 10 minute operas for solo voice and piano. Composers are asked to base their mini-opera on a Nova Scotia theme of cultural or historic significance. Composers and singers are paired with one another 5 months before the workshop and attend each others sessions during the week. The workshop consists of individual sessions, masterclasses, lectures and lots of time to comune with your fellow participants!

When the earth breathes, it is called wind ---
The zephyr produces a minor harmony;
The squall, a major harmony.
Do not listen with your ears, but with your spirit,
Do not listen with your spirit but with your breath.
Breath is the void that can conform to external objects.

We are accepting proposals for performative lectures, presentations, and performances (10 to 15 minutes) from established or emerging artists which focus on 3 main themes:

• The voice and new technologies
• Improvisation and new technologies
• New Musical Interfaces

If you have an idea which does not fit into the above categories we would still love to hear from you. MINT is open to topics such as artificial intelligence and music, music and the mind, or any other topic which taps into music and technologies which are forward thinking and current. Are you using old technologies in new ways? Send us a proposal! MINT will be dedicated to as much networking, interfacing with technology, and performance as possible.

Performances will be peppered throughout the conference. We will accept proposals for performances of a through composed or improvised works which incorporate new technology and consideration in our performance schedule! Tell us about it.

Deadline for submissions is September 15th, 2018
