Mykel Penney is a Canadian musician, producer, and songwriter based in Guelph, Ontario. Known for his dynamic work in the rock scene, he is the frontman and creative force behind the hard rock trio The Jailbirds and the southern rock project The Wild High. Musical Career
Myke's musical journey began in the Greater Toronto Area, where he formed The Jailbirds in 2015. The band quickly gained recognition for their high-energy performances and classic rock-inspired sound, drawing comparisons to Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, and Royal Blood. Their debut EP, The Black River, released in 2019, showcased their raw talent and earned them the title of Best Rock Band at the 2018 Mississauga Music Awards.
Following The Black River, The Jailbirds released Jungle in 2021, continuing to build their reputation in the Canadian rock scene. In 2024, they released the single "Take Me Away" and subsequently the EP "High Noon" which was produced by Penney and featured his distinctive guitar work, vocals and production style.
In addition to his work with The Jailbirds, Myke has joined The Wild High, a southern/country rock project started by ex singer of Monster Truck, Jon Harvey - that further showcases his versatility as an artist and producer.
Tonehenge Recording
In 2024, Myke expanded his influence in the music industry by opening Tonehenge Recording in Guelph. The studio offers a range of services, including recording (live off the floor capabilities), mixing, and production, with a focus on achieving a clean "radio ready" sound. Since its inception, Tonehenge Recording has attracted bands from across Ontario and beyond, establishing itself as a respected facility for artists seeking high-quality production.
