Had an awesome time plein air painting in Tumbler Ridge at Holzworth Meadows with a couple lovely artists! Battled a bit of rain and muddy trails, but I’d say it was worth the hike! I finished 3 paintings all in one day.

View from Beaver Lake

9 x 12”

This spectacular view of Queen Elizabeth Ranges is a memory I wanted to last. Last week my brother and I stopped in Jasper after our 4 day canoe trip in Wells Grey Provincial Park and he took me to one of his favourite places to fly fish.

As an artist who’s primarily worked from photos, one of my biggest challenges with this session was the constant changing of lighting. I had to think more about the form of the mountain peaks and how the lighting would interact rather than just copying the shapes that the lights and shadows created. Took me about 3 hours to finish this painting and it is definitely one of my new favourites!

Had an awesome week in BC and Jasper! Started out with some epic waterfall hikes and 4 days of Canoeing at Clearwater and Azure Lakes in Wells Grey Provincial Park, followed by a couple days in Jasper for some plein air painting. I am super happy with how the second piece turned out!

I have rescheduled my acrylic landscape painting class for Saturday the 27th, due to an unexpected case of the stomach flu on the previous date. In this class you will learn how to look for dynamic compositions, use reference material effectively, and break down a scene into simplified shapes. This class will be aimed at beginner to moderate level artists. You can register on my website at HannahShkolnyArt.ca.
