🎬 Filmmaker Spotlight: EK

EK took an unconventional path into filmmaking. After working in international communications, diplomacy, and peace and conflict work, they made the leap into film production by creating their very first feature film.

Written during the pandemic and brought to life with the support of filmmaker friends from Vancouver, local cast and crew, and communities across the Kootenays, the project is a reminder that there is no single path into filmmaking.

Every filmmaker's journey is different. If you have a story to tell, you're already closer than you think.

Want to make a film? 🎬

Challenge yourself in the first-ever FORKS48, a fast-paced 48-hour filmmaking challenge.

Here's how it works:

At 6:00 PM on Friday, July 31, you'll receive three required elements:
• A Prop
• A Line of Dialogue
• A Narrative Element

From there, you have just 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film (maximum 5 minutes, 30 seconds including credits).

Every film must include all three challenge elements.

Then, sit back and enjoy a screening of all the completed films alongside fellow FORKS48 teams!

No filmmaking experience? No problem.

As long as you have a phone, some creativity, and a willingness to give it a shot, FORKS48 is for you.

Alongside Christina Lake Arts Collective and Gallery 2 - Grand Forks Art Gallery , Forks Film Festival is bringing filmmaking workshops to the Boundary Region this summer to help YOU tell your stories!

From Adult & Teen Intro to Filmmaking Workshops to 4-day Youth Filmmaking Workshops, there are plenty of opportunities to learn, create, collaborate, and make your very first film.

And the best part? Every film created during the Youth Workshops will receive its GLOBAL PREMIERE at the Historic GEM Theatre during the inaugural Forks Film Festival this September!

Last week’s filmmaker meetup was an absolute pleasure to host! Huge thank you to Carla and the KSBI Kootenay Film and all the filmmakers who came out and shared the evening with us.

A special thank you to E.K., Collin, Jeremy, and Peter for sitting down for conversations about filmmaking, storytelling, and community. With such varied backgrounds in film, the discussions were engaging, insightful, and inspiring, and we can’t wait to share some of those insights over the coming weeks.

Joe and I also loved sharing what Forks Film Festival has been up to. From youth workshops to the 48 Hour Film Challenge and everything coming up this summer.

Thank you all for helping kick off the very first summer of Forks Film Festival. The tone has officially been set on a high note, and we’re excited to continue meeting more filmmakers from across the Kootenays in the coming months. 🎬🍴
