The Arts Without Borders Festival in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, begins today, and I’m proud to have two pieces displayed as part of the fine arts show. I’m excited to have this opportunity to exhibit my work outside of B.C. for the first time, and as an added bonus, I’ve been informed that “Tree Swallow” has received the best in show award, and “Still Dreaming” received second place in the wildlife category!

If anyone in my audience lives out that way and is interested in checking out the art show, it will be held until October 24th at the Lloydminster Museum & Archives.

This mini series, Life in Ladysmith, is officially available in my online shop!

Vancouver Island has a richly biodiverse ecosystem which made it difficult to narrow down to only four species, but I feel these animals represent the area of Ladysmith well. From land mammals, big and small, to birds, and marine life, all of these paintings come from personal experiences of mine over the last few months. Vancouver Island is a much busier place than where I call home, but there are always opportunities to connect with nature if you look for them. Ladysmith is my home away from home, and through this series, I wanted to embrace the new opportunities I have here to experience different wildlife than what I typically see in the mountains of my own backyard.

Each painting is 8”x10”, oil on panel with a satin finish, complete with a 1.5” deep solid oak frame, ready to hang.
I’d love to know which painting is your favourite and if you have a special connection to any of these amazing animals.

1. Great Blue Heron
2. Roosevelt Elk
3. Orca
4. Eastern Cottontail

After hours of hard work on this juvenile bald eagle, I tried to alter the branches at the top and ended up ruining the entire piece. It now lives in my husband’s workshop along with a few other drawings of mine that he saves from the garbage bin. At least I scanned it first so I can be reminded of my mistake and regret it eternally. 🫠
