Happy happy happy to those who're happy

A slight update, and a tantalizing teaser.

Ian O'Brien's "Opie Come Home" will be produced by Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Secondary School as their entry in to the 2015 SEARS Drama Festival.

From as far as we here at AR can carefully decipher, the students find this discovery "cool" and "stuff". If I know anything about Ian, which I'd prefer not to substantiate, I'm sure he'd find this "cool" as well.

Interestingly, when AR caught word of the students desire to produce a show we all know well, and when we extended our bony, time betrayed fingers, offering assistance, the students confidently exclaimed that they could "handle it and stuff". Once our translators finished decoding, we realized that the students intend to make this show an entirely separate event from any attempts at Opie that have come before. What a welcome feat. Though I'm sure our project starved associates would have loved the chance to dive right in, the students are determined to make this their own. We excitedly await and encourage just that. :)

This gives AR loads more time to focus on the upcoming theatrical year. There are many things in the work:

- A collaborative mini theatre festival in the Spring, involving artists from Georgetown and Toronto

- A local discussion series involving passionate artists and actuators, and engaging, relevant topics.

- A possible mural exhibit during the Summer Months

And much more.

Speaking of Ian, he's busy working away on his two-act show, Pinchin. It promises to be something special, when it's finally ready to come about.

Enjoy yourselves

Understandably, with recent events, we trust many of you, like us here, have found it profoundly difficult, to focus. To concentrate. A great man once said that with any tragic incident we find ourselves at a fork in a road. Two paths lead separate ways, never to meet again, and we're there to choose one.

We may choose fear

Or we may choose compassion

Some want one, and some wish for the other. Which one do you choose?

Amethyst Rex would like to express condolences to the family of the murdered soldier. We hope our fans and friends will take any chance they get to create and find release in that endeavor.

A wonderful email received from a gentleman in our Hamilton Fringe audience to share:

Today I had the l pleasure of experiencing Georgetown talent in action. I have been a theater goer for decades. I've enjoyed the arts in New York, London and Toronto. I grew up in Ottawa on National Art Centre productions and supported amateur theater in Ottawa and Hamilton.

In all these experiences I have never been as surprised and impressed as I was today. This original piece that explores the moral conflict that arose out of the dawn of the atomic age through Robert Oppenheimer's perspective was an interesting and fascinating production. The cast held the audience's interest with their flawless and impactful performance.

I understand that all these artists from the play-write to the cast and crew to the direct call Georgetown their home and are part of and supported by the Georgetown Little Theater. Congratulations. Please pass along my thoughts and appreciation to these wonderful artists.

Well, friends, Autumn is almost upon us, and certain members are busying themselves with different projects like some sort of long toothed, leather tailed water creatures desperate to home themselves before Winter. Already. Old habits dying hard, apparently. ;)

Please excuse the dormancy, but sometimes these things take time. If anyone has any questions or queries they can always reach us on this page or by our email.

IN THE MEANTIME, know that great things are in motion, and alive like clockwork.

Don't let them silence you.

Friends,

Let us take a moment to reflect on the passing of Robin Williams. All jokes aside, his genius and light were welcome additions to the monotony, and he will be missed dearly. We here at Amethyst Rex hope you will cherish his memory by taking a moment today to create. Something. Anything.

And keep your ears open...

Well well well,

is finished. What can be said, friends? Those of you that caught it might, if our work was just, have found a sliver of yourself in its progression. Or not. Either way, we hope you have an opinion on it.

We'd like to thank everyone whose opinions helped shape this production. From crew to cast, the dedication did not go unnoticed.

As well, we'd like to thank the volunteers and designers of the and Hamilton Theatre Inc. We loved every minute of the festival, and can't wait to see or be a part of future editions of the Theatre Festival.

Two shining reviews and bellies full of ideas mean only that this was a successful two weeks.

KEEP up to date with this page, as we are hard at work planning for our next endeavor.
