GAC’s mandate is to facilitate an awareness of and participation in the arts on Gabriola, and to support and mentor local artists.

Our mission is to ACTIVATE, ENHANCE and INSPIRE cultural vitality through collaboration, leadership and service. The Gabriola Arts Council is a not-for-profit society under BC’s Society’s Act, and a charitable organization under the federal Charities Directorate. According to a 2011 Hills Strategy Research study conducted on behalf of the Canada Council for the Arts, Gabriola Island ranks sixth ac

ross Canada with respect to concentration of artists in the local workforce (5.8% compared to the national average of 0.8%). Every day is a celebration of the arts on this “Isle of the Arts” and in this community of writers, actors, poets, painters, dancers, musicians, sculptors and potters. Artists are an important part of the island’s economic and social engine, and the Gabriola Arts Council (GAC) is committed to growing this sector through building audiences, and by increasing accessibility of the arts to people of all ages and interests. GAC supports local artists in all mediums and at all levels, while ensuring that local residents have opportunities to engage with art and artists, and that off-island communities are aware of our rich artistic resources.

✨ Celebrating Community & Connection at the Islands Trust AGM ✨

Breaking Bannock, a wonderful Gabriola community initiative, will be recognized with an Islands Trust Community Stewardship Award this morning! 🎉

Breaking Bannock was created as a Gabriola Arts Council initiative, and we’re incredibly proud to see the program—and the community connections it has fostered—celebrated in this way.

If you’re attending the Islands Trust AGM, come a little early! Breaking Bannock will be serving up some delicious bannock before the meeting begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by an opening and welcome from Snuneymuxw Elder Geraldine Manson.

Congratulations to the Breaking Bannock team of Ardyth Cooper, Tsatassaya (Tracy) White, and Diana Radonjic! We’re honoured to celebrate this recognition with you.
