On Saturday May 30 The Fredericton Karate Dojo held an adult student grading.
The students showed the results of many months and in some cases, years, of training.
They carry on the Okinawan karate style of Dai Sensei Yagi Meitoku as taught to our teacher Hanshi Ken B. Tallack of Ottawa.
Results of the grading:

Jean-Francois Gervais - gokyu (yellow belt) Atrina Bassiri - sankyu (green belt)
Thomas Holloway - sankyu (green belt)
Hope Aziz - shodan (1st degree black belt
Vittoria Naderi - shodan
Alex Dargavel - honorable mention for assistance with teaching duties. He will soon be recommended for the rank of nidan (2nd degree black belt)
Although the shodan rank is the first black belt level the word translates to "beginner grade". It means that the student has a solid grasp of the basics and can now continue to learn more deeply.

On Saturday, Dec. 20 we held our annual Christmas open house so parents and friends can drop in and see what the members have been practicing.
After the student demonstrations there was lots of pizza and treats for everyone!
Thanks to all attendees for bringing food items for the Greener Village Food Bank!
Besides the food items our dojo contributed a cheque for $1000.
FKDs great members and students always want to help and our communities really need the assistance these days.

On Saturday, June 20 our dojo had an open house so that parents and friends could drop in and see some demonstrations and enjoy some snacks.
Congratulations to Charly Newell and Steven Reynolds who both received their orange belts!
Many of the visitors brought donations for the Fredericton Food Bank which will be a big help for some people.
Always be grateful for what you have!

On Saturday, Feb.1, 2025 the Fredericton Karate Dojo conducted an adult grading and our hard working students were very successful at demonstrating their knowledge of Goju Ryu Meitoku-ha karate-do.
This Okinawan Goju Ryu style was introduced to Canada by our senior instructor, Ken Tallack, Hanshi who studied it in Okinawa under the founder, Dai Sensei Yagi Meitoku.
Dai Sensei Yagi Meitoku was senior student to Miyagi Chojun sensei, the founder of Goju Ryu karate.
Here are the results of the grading. Congratulations to all students who are carrying on this tradition!

On Monday Oct.21 we were lucky to have our old friend Sensei Dave Shaw from Oshawa, Ontario (originally Harvey, NB) come to our dojo for a visit and teach some interesting karate/jiu jutsu techniques.
Sensei Shaw practices Jundokan Goju Ryu karate-do and jiu jutsu under Sensei Ron Yamanaka.
