Designing Downtown is a vehicle for inter-city exchange and partnerships that seek to enrich and advance the conversations and actions that we take to shape downtowns as spaces for everyone. Founded by Progress Unlimited, M.A.D.E. (Media Architecture Design Edmonton), Edmonton’s Next Gen Initiative in 2011, Designing Downtown began as an event series to challenge how we perceive and engage with do
wntowns. If you'd like to become a partner, please contact us. DESIGNING DOWNTOWN - PKN 17
On October 5th, MADE, Progress Unlimited, and Edmonton's NextGen present one of the largest and richest citizen-driven conversations about urban cores in Canada through Designing Downtown - Pecha Kucha Night 17. An anticipated crowd of 1,700 Edmontonians will take in PKN 17 at the Winspear Centre and thousands of other Canadians will experience the nationally live-streamed event in partner cities across the country. Presenters from different regions and backgrounds will, in the pecha kucha style, have 6 minutes and 40 seconds to challenge us to think in new ways about how we design and develop our city cores. Our goal is bring cities together to enrich and advance the conversations, ideas, and actions that shape our downtowns as places for everyone. DESIGNING DOWNTOWN – MAKESCAPE #2
Also on October 5th, Edmontonians can enjoy a dynamically activated Centennial Plaza (behind the Stanley Milner Library). This Designing Downtown project is an urban intervention that transforms an underutilized downtown space using design and art elements, food, and entertainment into a space that entices passersby to interact with the environment and each other differently. Stay tuned for more events leading up to and surrounding the flagship Designing Downtown event – PKN 17. Single tickets go on sale soon through Tix on the Square.
