Spring break is now officially over and my kids were counting down the days until they were back in school 😆

Update at The Paper Alchemist

After being rescheduled twice, I finally had a long awaited surgery on my left hand. If anyone has ever experienced carpal tunnel syndrome, you’ll know this comes as a huge relief. For my calligraphy friends, not to worry, as this is not my dominant side. I am right handed 👋🏼

For now, I will be giving myself some time to heal and recover before starting any major projects.

I will be following and cheering you on from the sidelines and I can’t wait to see what the new year brings! ✨💛🧧🎋🍊🐯

This is my collection of “Jessica.” For the last 6 months, when I saw my name pop up on my feed, I took notice! I studied how the capital “J” and the double “s” were lettered. I loved seeing the different calligraphy styles and the range of hand-lettering methods used (which also included hot foiling and engraving!)

Everyone loves to receive mail 💌

It’s that time of year when I send out our annual Christmas card to our loved ones near and far. This has been a tradition I’ve held onto for years. I love seeing your little ones grow, and no, I don’t recycle the cards after the season is done. I literally have cards of your kids when they were babies.

HELLO and allow me to introduce myself

My name is Jessica, but call me Jes 👋🏼 I am a modern calligrapher, based in Edmonton, Alberta 🇨🇦 and the proud owner and artist behind The Paper Alchemist. My calligraphy journey started one year ago and I have been in love with the pointed pen ever since. I love working with ink because it is measured, analog, and meditative. Thank you for following along!!

For the holiday season, here are some fun facts about me:

📆 Advent calendars are always an afterthought (after December starts) and I’m never ahead of the game to grab those exclusive gin, beer, wine or cheese ones. Chocolate is typically my last (and only) resort.

🎄 Tree: real or artificial? I’ve always grown up with an artificial tree, and I’m eyeing the flocked trees this season. They’re just so beautiful! (You won’t believe that our tree isn’t up yet 😩😏 Not to worry - Mariah Carey hasn’t fully defrosted here - there’s still plenty of time!)

❄️ There are four seasons here in Edmonton and I really need that “White Christmas” to get into the festive, holiday spirit. When it snows on Christmas Day, it makes it THAT extra special. I spent one Christmas away from home and it was never quite the same. Can anyone relate?
