Happy Expanse Festival!

Phantom Limbs opens tomorrow afternoon! Here’s a glimpse behind the scenes as the crew gets ready.

Starting March 21, we're presenting four performances of Phantom Limbs, a multisensory play created by Kristi Hansen in collaboration with Moment Discovery.

Phantom Limbs is a glitch in the machine.
A dance with the past.
A memory play that may or may not remember correctly.

Part performance, part technological misfire, Phantom Limbs explores what the body remembers, even when something is no longer physically there.

Expanse Festival is less than a week away, and we've been working on something special with Kristi Hansen and Azimuth Theatre!

Come experience Phantom Limbs, created by Kristi Hansen with Moment Discovery.

Phantom Limbs is a glitch in the machine. A dance with the past. A memory play that may or may not remember correctly.

Part performance, part technological misfire, Phantom Limbs explores what the body remembers even when something is no longer physically present. Through movement, body-based technology, and layered memory, Kristi Hansen plays with absence, sensation, and the poetic tension between what once was and what remains.

Weaving together art and technology, we are endlessly inspired by algorithms and patterns found in nature. While creating algorithmic patterns that artistically reflect on the natural world, we discover wonderful designs used on the content we create on our LED sculptures.

Here is a behind the scenes look at a collaboration between our founder Will Bauer and painter Jesse Thomas. They have been testing ideas at FAB Gallery at the University of Alberta in preparation for an exhibit they will be doing next year. Our team has been working at the gallery this past week to develop a tech plan for the exhibit. So many moving parts when working with media!

Inspired by nature many of the algorithmic artworks that we create for our media devices such as DotBox are abstractions based on our experiences exploring landscapes. We feature both interactive designs that respond to the presence of humans in addition to gorgeous moving patterns that can be enjoyed as part of the atmosphere of a space. In the work that we do at Moment Discovery, we are particularily excited about human computer interaction. We are continually developing technology that allows people to interact with media devices and experience the technology responding to thier movements or sounds. Curious about whether what we do can support what you do? Reach out to us and we can plan a studio visit with you either in person or virtually!
