The sandpiper Festival celebrates the migration season of the semi palmated sandpiper, 95% of which stop here in Dorchester. They spend the summer in their breeding grounds of Canada’s low arctic then begin their flight to South America. While they are in Dorchester the sandpiper will consume 4 times it’s body weight in mud shrimp to build up their strength for the next portion of their flight. Th
e festival includes lots of activities for people to enjoy, such as the People's choice photo exhibit, a watermelon eating contest and many more!
