• .by.salzy A little video of my waterfall . I've always wanted to plein air paint a waterfall, and this hidden gem in Ontario was perfect. The hike down was a little scary as well, with ropes and my plein air painting pack on my back, but well worth it! I completed the painting in gouache on my easel.

3 things I do every time I paint outside:

1. Value sketch to establish structure and composition.
2. Block out the big shapes. Simplifying is the fastest way out of overwhelm.
3. Add detail where it counts. The whole painting doesn’t need detail. Draw the viewer’s eye to the one spot that matters.

Really loving making these outdoor painting videos. Still figuring it out as I go, but if even one tip helps someone out there- I’ll be happy! Where should i paint next? let me know what your ideas are
