We’ve had an inspiring week at WCA with pop-ups and workshops led by artists Patrick Paul and Madelyn Gowler!
Patrick Paul (ABsoluteORIGINAL) led a vibrant painting workshop last Saturday, followed by a pop-up session out front on Tuesday. Working in the Woodland Art style — an Indigenous arts movement championed by Norval Morrisseau — Patrick brought energy, colour, and Ojibwe storytelling to life. He is also one of two featured artists in our current exhibition, running from July 25 to August 13. Definitely check out his work, if you haven't already!
Madelyn Gowler, the current Artist in Residence at the Deep Bay cottage (in partnership with the Manitoba Arts Council / Conseil des arts du Manitoba and Canada RMNP), gave an exciting artist talk and demonstration of her unique artistic process. She’s creating phytograms on 16mm film using natural materials gathered from around Wasagaming. By soaking plants in a solution of vitamin C, washing soda, and water, then placing them onto unprocessed film to expose outdoors, she’s producing a stunning experimental moving-image film rooted in the natural beauty of RMNP!
From bold brushstrokes to hands-on printmaking, participants of all ages got creative, explored new techniques, and connected through art. A huge thank you to our talented guest artists for sharing their time and creativity with our community!
✨ Stay tuned for more summer art events — and come get creative with us!
