I created this meme from a vintage 1930’s box of matches I bought at a Creston, BC thrift store. What a score!
Finding a dry box of matches in this damp, foggy, slushy, climate is rare indeed.
It would have made really good fire starter, but I think it survived for a reason.
And I think it’s because of Canadian patriotism.
The deep bright red ink hasn’t faded over the decades. It’s a great design.
I can believe this little paper box was the only bright thing in a dark cabin somewhere. The only piece of art for miles.
I can believe that the image of the Peace Tower on Parliament hill was a beacon of hope and worth protecting.
