A gentle reminder that Poetry Night is happening this evening — and it’s shaping up to be a special one.

We’re celebrating the launch of Bianca Lakoseljac’s new poetry collection, Silence is Full of Sound, and she’ll be hosting the evening and opening with a reading from her new work.

After that, the space opens for our open mic — for anyone who feels like sharing a poem… or simply listening.

No experience needed.
No expectations.
Just a welcoming room, yummy treats, and the chance to be part of something quietly meaningful.

Alice Major, author of Knife on Snow says “That tumble of figurative language, such unexpected but spot-on imagery. A mother “foursquare as a dresser shimmed with a crucifix.” The father’s words “a brace of shot geese / tossed on the table / to prove to strangers / whose home they were in.” “Here she is, beating confessions from a rug.” So much energy, and applied to such complex subject matter — the energy of anger and love combined.” Expect scintillating words and contemplations....

Friday Jan 16th, 7-9pm. 2 Townley St. Nottawa, at The Artists' House. Join us for an open mic evening of poetry, connection, and creative expression in a warm, welcoming space. Whether you're reading, listening, or just soaking in the vibes, you'll be part of a vibrant literary community. Come share your voice or be moved by others. All are welcome!
January’s theme is ‘PROMISES’- the ones we make, the ones we break, the ones we keep quietly to ourselves, and the ones still waiting to be spoken. Write something new, or bring whatever you feel inspired to share.
We’re also inviting poets to:
bring their own poetry books to sell or trade
add a book (or two) to our new poetry exchange table
This is a PWYC Event. See you Frida night? Lory.

The Island Holiday Boutique is my favourite event of the year. I have been a vendor there for over 40 years. How is that even possible! lol. They will be available in a variety of items- cards, houses, home decor and prints. Friday Dec 5, 7pm-10pm and Saturday Dec 6 11am-4pm. Algonquin Island AIA Clubhouse.

I’m popping up on the Island next weekend!
I’m thrilled to be part of the Toronto Island AIA Holiday Boutique, joining 50+ talented Island makers (including my amazing mom, Joan!). It’s my favourite event of the year — cozy, creative, neighbourly, and full of treasures you won’t find anywhere else.

This year I’ll be showcasing my Toronto Island Memory Houses — a heartfelt series of handcrafted wooden house blocks featuring nostalgic Island photography, art and iconic moments from our shared past.
From vintage masquerade scenes… to ferry memories… to the legendary Diving Horse(!)… these little houses are packed with Island spirit.

If you’re an Islander, an Island-lover, a history buff, or simply hunting for meaningful holiday gifts, come say hello! Each piece is created with love, salvaged wood, and a whole lot of Toronto Island magic.

Toronto Island AIA Holiday Boutique
A beautiful gathering of 50+ Island artists & makers
Next weekend 11am-4pm at the AIA Clubhouse.
Perfect for holiday gifting, collecting, or treating yourself

I can’t wait to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new ones, and share these Memory Houses with you. Come for the art, stay for the Island charm.

See you there!

Tonight! Poetry Night Friday November 21st. Please join us for some literary love. Poetry Night at The Artists' House, 7-9pm. Our host this month is Allison Bothley, from Orangeville, ON. Open Mic, all welcome! 2 Townley St, Nottawa, ON. Our writing prompt is "Music in the mundane".
Choose a sound from daily life (a refrigerator hum, subway brakes, typing keys, your own breath, the furnace starting up) and translate it into language. These sounds are so ordinary that we stop hearing them, yet each one carries a mood, a memory, a hidden meaning. What does that sound carry beneath its surface noise? https://www.theartistshouse.ca/poetry-night
