Alex Janvier was a prolific creator with all paint mediums.

This original titled "Winter Flowers", was painted at a Banff Residency in 2010. Watercolours lent to quick drying times for each colour which allowed Alex to bring home an amazing array of artworks after his residency was over.

This is a 2003 flashback we wanted to share. Alex and Jacqueline Janvier opened their gallery in Cold Lake North, across from the Marina in 2003. Mayor Thaleshvar attended the event on behalf of the City of Cold Lake. There were so many other lovely people who celebrated with us that day. We were delighted to bring in a unique business to our local city. City of Cold Lake

Alex was inspired by the beautiful floral designs made by the Elderly ladies in his community, the Cold Lake First Nations when he was a young boy. They often used beads, porcupine quills, moose or caribou fur, and fish scales for designs in their work. It helped shape Alex's aesthetic expression as a visual artist.

There’s something uniquely intriguing about this work. It has the background of the John Deere series, yet a prominent and beautiful Indigenous man painted on top.
Painting: Half Son, Acrylic on Canvas, 2001
