On Sunday afternoon past there was a large celebration as the Gananoque Downtown Business Association through a kitchen party at the Townhall park. It opened with the town cryer welcoming everyone, and announcing that The Palyhouse Theatre had just begun. They’re sold out run of the Broadway smash it Come From Away. To celebrate. the Celtic Kitchen Party performed, I was hired to preform a traditional Newfoundland Screech in, which was also followed up by an ugly stick competition. It was a fabulous day.
Knowing good spirits, we did do this as a nonalcoholic screeching as it was in a town park and we did follow the tradition of having some Newfoundland steak, Bologna, and each person had to Kiss the Cod! (and knowing that alive or frozen, God would be very difficult to come by. I created my own. Which now sits over the fireplace kind of like a trophy.
