Queerly Canadian Productions is a fearless new q***r theatre collective based on Prince Edward Island, committed to centering 2SLGBTQIA+ voices through bold, unapologetic, and distinctly Canadian storytelling. Founded in 2025 by acclaimed performer, director, and drag artist Jay Whitehead—formerly of Alberta’s trailblazing Theatre Outré—the collective brings a rich legacy of q***r performance to t

he East Coast. As Didi, he has explored the intersections of drag, politics, and performance art, using satire, glamour, and gender play to challenge norms and ignite dialogue. This same spirit of radical creativity lies at the heart of Queerly Canadian Productions. From intimate solo works to ensemble-driven new plays, the collective aims to platform underrepresented q***r narratives and foster artistic experimentation. Through mainstage shows, community-driven projects, and educational outreach, Queerly Canadian Productions cultivates a space where q***r artists and audiences can gather, celebrate, and transform. A new play looks back at Toronto's horrifying bathhouse raids

On Feb. 5, 1981, one of the largest mass arrests in Canada's history saw nearly 300 q***r patrons of Toronto bathhouses arrested as part of what police called Operation Soap. Bathhouses are mostly thought of as places for casual s*x, but they were often also some of the only places where it was safe for q***r people to openly be themselves. The raids and their fallout — many of the q***r businesses targeted in the raids never fully recovered — caused massive protests by Toronto’s q***r community. This all led to a rally on March 6, 1981 that was the city’s de facto first Pride.

Playwright and theatre maker Jay Whitehead’s new play 333: The Toronto Bathhouse Raids, takes a look at those raids and their aftermath. Whitehead says he felt like this was the right moment for a play like this, because the history of the 2SLGBTQ+ movement is one of “ebb and flow, of acceptance followed by rejection.” Right now, he says, after a quarter century of consistent progress,“we're shifting back towards hiding.”
