We are looking for interested community members to join our Board of Directors! If you would like to support regional Inuinnaqtun immersion and revitalization efforts through this volunteer position (and identify as Inuit and are 18+), please attend our Annual General Meeting on October 16th, at 10am and put your name forward.

Our Board of Directors meets regularly, and oversees PI/KHS operations, provides governance, strategic direction, and ensures that Inuinnait values, knowledge and priorities are central to, and guiding our programming.

Our AGM will also be open to the public for anyone interested in learning more about what we are up to. All community members are welcome.

Congratulations to all the participants who have been part of “Our Life’s Journey” (OLJ) training delivered in Iqaluktuuttiaq (Cambridge Bay) this month. OLJ is an Inuit Counsellor Training Program offered by Ilisaqsivik for over 15 years. It was developed by Ilisaqsivik in partnership with LifeWorks Counselling and Training Services in response to the acute need for counselling by Inuit, for Inuit, blending Inuit and other healing methods. This is a very special OLJ as it was delivered for the first time in the Kitikmeot region. We welcome and look forward to having participants join more trainings in future OLJ modules! Thank you to everyone in Iqaluktuuttiaq who welcomed and hosted us, organizing such a great experience for everyone. ❤️

The last day with the youth boys always feels special. Today they took time to reflect on the memories we made — the laughs, the good food by the fire, and most of all, spending time with the elders and listening to their wisdom. Serving fresh river water to the community was another highlight for them. Each boy went home with a new fishing rod, and I’m hoping we see them out on the water catching that arctic char soon.
Thank you, guys, for showing up and giving your best. I’m so proud of you all.

Day 2: The youth got to wintess a young man catch a huge char! That’s the kind of moment that lights a spark. You could see it in them: "I want to try that too." That inspiration on the river is worth more than any lesson.

Roasting hotdogs and s'mores too... land, laughter, and full bellies.

So even if they didn’t catch their own char yet, they left with something: the sight of what’s possible, time together, and those sweet memories.

Another lovely day to remember.

Day 1 of youth boys with KHS.

With the community on a boil water advisory, the boys bringing river water to the elders wasn’t just a nice gesture — it was real service.

You can see how happy the elders felt. To have youth think of them, go out to the river, and bring that water back... that’s respect, that’s love, that’s community taking care of each other.

And for the boys too — they got to feel what it means to help. No fish, but they came home with something better: knowing they made the elders smile and feel cared for.

It’s such a joy for KHS staff just by taking them out there. Practical help + listening to advice + being on the land. We really enjoyed our day at the river also thank you to our amazing team Yvonne and Aggiu. Thank you!
