FascinAsian Film Festival celebrates Pan-Asian storytelling in film and media, with chapters in Calgary (April 30-May 3), Winnipeg (May 1-3), and Edmonton (May 12-16).

FascinAsian Film Festival was proud to return as community partner for the 2026 Edition of EXNW East by Northwest, an annual summit for racialized producers, writers, directors, and more industry professionals looking to advance their creative careers, make connections, develop community relationships, and learn about the ever-evolving industry.

We couldn’t have been more excited to bring to EXNW a delegation of six emerging Asian Canadian talents, along with three of our festival executive team members from Calgary and Winnipeg.

Along with panels, keynotes and meetings, a highlight was taking in the inspiring EXNW Gala Awards Dinner, where Asian luminaries like film producer, Lalita Krishna, and actor, Randall Park, were recognized with Global Connector Awards. Another highlight for the team was the unofficial FascinAsian After Party, where delegates and guests sang karaoke until the wee hours of the morning. 🎶😉 We were even joined by Jasmeet Raina (Youtuber Jus Reign, creator and star of Late Bloomer).

Thanks to the Racial Equity Screen Office and their hardworking staff, volunteers and board members for putting on another fantastic summit!

FascinAsian looks forward to putting what we learned at EXNW into practice and returning with another delegation next year!

FascinAsian Film Festival at EXNW East by Northwest 2026!

FascinAsian is bringing a delegation to EXNW Summit this week July 24-26 in Vancouver, B.C. We are proud to support talented filmmakers, writers, directors, and creatives as they participate in one of Canada's leading creative summits for racialized storytellers.

Over three days, creators working in film, television, streaming, gaming, and animation from around the globe will come together at the summit to participate in industry panels, pitch sessions, and networking events. EXNW, presented by Racial Equity Screen Office, will spark ideas and conversations to inspire, challenge and help shape the future of storytelling.

FascinAsian Film Festival Board members from our three chapters Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton gathered in Calgary for our annual Board Retreat! ��The weekend’s conversations challenged us, inspired us, and left us feeling invigorated and eager to implement ideas that will help us more meaningfully serve Pan-Asian filmmakers, moviegoers, and festival partners. �

📣 ANNOUNCING THE 2026 TRAILBLAZER AWARD RECIPIENTS 📣

FascinAsian Film Festival, the premier film festival in the Prairie region celebrating Pan-Asian contributions to film and media arts, is pleased to announce recipients of the Year of the Fire Horse - Trailblazer Award, for their longstanding and significant contributions to film, media, and cultural representation in North America.

Congratulations to Joan Chen and Eric San (a.k.a. Kid Koala), FascinAsian Film Festival’s Trailblazer Award Winners. 🏆🏆

JOAN CHEN is a true trailblazer in the industry. Her award-winning work spans decades. Along with acting, Joan is a filmmaker and philanthropist. Now, with her latest role in Montréal, ma belle, Joan shows once again why her star has shone so brightly. Joan embodies both delicacy and strength, creating a palpable tension, while at the same time exuding a beautiful grace in her performance. Joan Chen is an inspiration and FascinAsian Film Festival is proud to recognize her with a Trailblazer Award.

ERIC SAN a.k.a Kid Koala is a true multi-media trailblazer and Asian-Canadian icon. An accomplished turntablist and performer, film composer, theatre producer and visual artist, Kid Koala continues to redefine media art. Space Cadet is Eric’s first feature animated film, based on the award-winning graphic novel of the same name. FascinAsian Film Festival is thrilled to share this film with our audiences, and to present Eric San with the Trailblazer Award for his significant contributions to music, culture, and Asian representation.

Both Joan and Eric’s works are featured in the upcoming FascinAsian Film Festival in Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg.
